Deacon Morty Ansel Harper

Deacon Morty A. Harper, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Elberton, Georgia. 

Deacon Morty Ansel Harper was born September 9, 1958, in Elberton GA to the late Deacon Joe Allen and Hilda Mae Harper. He departed this life on March 12, 2024.

Morty was a 1977 graduate of Elbert County Comprehensive High School and a 1979 graduate of Athens Tech. He joined the United States Navy in 1983 and was honorably discharged in 1989. Morty was a hard worker and was employed for over 30 years at Tenneco Automotive and Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Morty never met a stranger and was loved by many. He was a charitable person and was always willing to lend himself wherever he was needed. In his spare time, Morty enjoyed barbequing and cooking his dad’s “Famous Stew.”  

At an early age, Morty accepted Christ as his savior and joined Fortson Grove Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1979. He was a faithful member and deacon until he felt God calling him to Love In Action in 1995. Here he served as a church treasurer for over 30 years.

Morty was married to Jacqueline Hubbard Harper and to this union four children were born.

In addition to his parents, Morty is preceded in death by his brother John C. Harper and father-in-law Willie L. Hubbard.

He leaves to cherish his memories are his wife, Jacqueline Harper; four children, Keisha Harper, Athens, GA; Tysen (Fatima) Harper, Lumberton, NC; Shatoya (Woodrow) Belcher, Elberton, GA; Ty’Sean Harper, Duluth, GA; two grandchildren, Azaria Mattox and Nyla Belcher; three brothers, Joe (Pamelia) Harper, Warner Robins, GA; Jeffrey (Mary) Harper, Severn, MD; Donnie Harper, Elberton, GA; mother in law, Rosa Hubbard, Elberton, GA; two brothers in law, David (Latonya Hill) Hubbard; Carlton, GA; Darin Rucker, Elberton GA; four uncles; James Plummer, Elberton GA, Abe (Debbie) Plummer, Athens, GA; John (Ann) Plummer, Elberton, GA; Alfred Plummer, Elberton GA. Morty also leaves to cherish his memories are his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 3:00 - 6:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel. 

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 9:00am until 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 1:00pm, located at Love and Action Christian Outreach Center. 

Interment will follow the funeral service at Lincoln Heights Cemetery - Elberton, Georgia.
