Death is the last chapter in time, but the first chapter in eternity, Mrs. Arzonia (Hardman) Thornton of Elberton, Georgia peacefully passed on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Saint Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, Georgia.
Mrs. Arzonia (Hardman) Thornton was born July 10, 1938, in Elbert County, Georgia to the late Mr. John Bose Hardman and Mrs. Lucille (Saddler) Hardman. She departed this life on July 19, 2024, at Saint Mary’s Sacred Heart in Lavonia, Georgia with her family by her bedside.
At an early age Arzonia joined the Norman Grove C.M.E. Church where she served faithfully as president of the Usher Board, Stewardess Member and a member of the Senior Choir. In the community she was a member of the Pride of Hartwell Order of the Eastern Star #102, and a member of the Vacation Saving Club.
Arzonia was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eva Hardman, Genell Tolbert; brothers, James Hardman, Bose Hardman, Elijah Hardman.
She leaves precious memories to her husband, Clarence Thornton of the home; two sons, Felix Walter Bowen of Elberton, GA, Mike (Wanda) Thornton of Hartwell, GA; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; two sisters, Rogene (Willie) Allen of Royston, GA, Shirley (Willie) Baker of Elberton, GA; two brothers, Larry (Maris) Hardman, Micheal Hardman both of Elberton, GA; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Eddie (Betty) Thornton of Bowersville, GA, William (Shelby) Thornton, Scottie Thornton both of Elberton, GA; three sisters-in-law, Mae Sue Hardman, Rose Hardman, Cora Hardman all of Elberton, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel, from 12:00 - 5:00pm.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, located at Norman Grove C.M.E. - Elberton, GA. at 2:00pm.
Interment Services will follow the funeral service at Norman Grove C.M.E. Church Cemetery - Elberton, GA.
