Barbara Jean (Bolton) Banks was born on December 19, 1941, in Elberton, Georgia, to the late Rosa L. Turman and Zorias Bolton, Sr. On March 11, 2026, God sent his angel to rescue Barbara and reunite her with her heavenly family. Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings: Lillie Moss, Lula Pearl Allen, & Zorias Bolton, Jr., and her beloved husband, George Banks, Jr.
Barbara graduated from Blackwell Memorial High School in the Class of 1960 and was on the yearbook team and the homecoming court. She attended Griffin Beauty School, majoring in Cosmetology, and Akins Technical College, majoring in Computer Science. She was a retiree from Johnson & Johnson.
Barbara had an angelic soprano voice and loved to sing in the choir at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Her smile was her signature, and she received so many compliments on it. She loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She was actively involved in the Towel Club and the Tiara Glass Club in Elberton, Georgia.
Barbara leaves to cherish her fond memories six children: Jacques Thornton, Valencia Thornton, Sonya Thornton, and Sherika (Terrell) Henderson, all residing in Elberton, Georgia, Kelby (Cathy) Thornton, Pensacola, Florida, and Carmencita (Dennis) Wilson, McDonough, Georgia; one nephew from Barbara’s siblings, Melvin (Tammy) Thornton; two sisters-in-law: Ora Bell (Robert) Hamm & Mary Jean Johnson; two brothers in law: Walter Banks and Reverend Dallas Martin. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 1:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00pm, located at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church - Elberton, GA.
Interment service will immediately follow the funeral service located at Pinetown Cemetery - Elberton, GA.

The family will receive family and friends from the community at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sherika Banks Henderson, located at 302 Campbell St., Elberton, GA.
