Mrs. Betty Jean Tate, age 80 of Elberton, Georgia entered her eternal rest on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
Mrs. Betty Jean Lewis Tate was born August 16, 1943 to the late Mr. Robert Lewis and Mrs. Catherine (Cade) Lewis. She is preceded in death by her husband of many years Alvin T. Tate, Sr. and son Anthony Tate. Also her brothers Torrey Lewis, Wardell Lewis, Charles Lewis, Thomas Lewis and Harold Lewis; sisters-in-law Helen Tate, Margie Almond, Betty Lewis and Sandra Lewis; brother-in-law Ellis Tate; and father and mother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tate.
Early in life Betty joined Hunter’s Chapel AME Church and later in life after uniting in Holy Matrimony she joined the Cades Chapel Baptist Church where she was a very faithful servant; while here she was a member of the Ushers Board, Choir and Mothers Board all she took great pride in serving her Heavenly Father. Betty knew the importance of working this led her to Heardmont Nursing Home for the next forty-five years, and even during her stay there she still worked and cared for the patients.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three children Alvin Tate, Jr., Elberton, GA, Michael Tate, Elberton, GA, Marilyn Tate, Elberton, GA; three brothers James Lewis, Fayetteville, GA, Eddie (Sabrina) Lewis, Butzbach, Germany and Mack (Margie) Lewis, Lithonia, GA; eight sisters-in-law Phyllis Lewis, Queen Lewis, Barbara Lewis, Thelma Barnett, Cora Rucker, Eloise (Eddie) Smith, Ruth (Steve) Hunter, Jimmie Sue Goss; two brothers-in-law James (Dorothy) Tate, Herbert (Cathy) Tate; three grandchildren Makayla Tate, Robuques Ford, Tiequon Ford; three great grandchildren Amir R. Ford, Malayah Ford and Mia Ford; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was a mother and mentor to all she came in contact with and to a lot of children that she raised and gave advice too. She also had three girls she called her own Gyrrie Tate, Laura Davis and Shirley Hughes. Betty loved everybody and will truly be missed by all that knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1:00pm, located at Cades Chapel Baptist Church.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Cades Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
