Clarence Ellis Almond, the beloved youngest son of the late Jimmy Almond and Lina Jane (Raiford) Almond, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 16, 2025, in Athens, Georgia, at the age of 81.
Clarence lived a life marked by service, passion, and love, a devoted family man, proud Vietnam War veteran, and dedicated retiree of Chrysler Motors. Born on June 26, 1943, in Elberton, Georgia.
Clarence’s early years were spent in Elberton, where he attended Blackwell High School. His journey then took him to Kenosha, Wisconsin and worked for many years. Clarence answered the call to serve his country with honor and bravery during the Vietnam War. His time in the military shaped his unwavering sense of duty, resilience, and strength. He proudly served six years. His dedication and courage were recognized with honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) award.
Following his military service, Clarence returned to Kenosha to begin his career with Chrysler Motors. His deep love for cars, especially Drag Strip Racing, earned him numerous wins and lasting friendships. After a fulfilling career, he retired in 1999 and returned to Elberton, where his heart truly belonged. In his retirement, he continued to indulge his passion for automobiles and long-distance driving, always fueled by an enduring love for speed.
Clarence was not only a car enthusiast but a cherished community member, remembered fondly by all who knew him. His laughter, stories, and community spirit will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, daughter Pamela Davis, cherished sisters Mildred Almond, Mable Jordan, and Martha Mattox, and dear great-granddaughter Braylen Hollis.
Clarence’s legacy lives on through his children: Avera (Joe) McCrary, Lisa (Joseph) Richards, Debra Davis, Mark (Jorie) Bennett, Clarence (Tiffany) Almond Jr., Samantha (Arthur), and Tenisha Almond. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren: Kisha, Brittany, Jasmine, Zachary, Chris, Henry, Corey, Jurnie, Justis, Michael, Davuin, Micah, Jahava, Javeah, twenty seven great grandchildren, brother Joe (Juanita) Almond, God daughter, Destyni, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends and former spouse and friend, Lessie.
Clarence’s life was a testament to the love and joy he shared with those around him. He will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 3:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 1:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home Elberton Chapel.
Interment service with military honors will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 2:30pm, located at Georgia National Cemetery - Canton, GA.
