Deacon James Allen Obituary

Deacon James L. Allen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, servant-leader, and pillar of his community, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 4, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on August 13, 1936, in Elberton, Georgia, to late Pink and Sarah Allen. James lived a fulfilling and faithful life marked by love, dedication, and purpose.

He was united in holy matrimony to his cherished wife (My Girl), Mrs. Jasper Allen, and together they shared 68 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was a living testimony of love, strength, and faith. Through this bond, they raised six children who continue to reflect the values and legacy instilled by their father.

A hardworking and visionary man, James was the proud owner and entrepreneur of his own Pulpwood Company, which he successfully operated for over 40 years. He was known across the region for his relentless work ethic, integrity, and commitment to providing for his family and community.

His life of faith was evident in every role he held. A lifelong and devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, James faithfully served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, President of the Usher Ministry, and as a Deacon for many years. He led by example, teaching others the importance of walking humbly, serving joyfully, and loving deeply. His favorite hymn, “He’s Sweet I Know,” beautifully expressed his unwavering devotion to the Lord.

James deeply loved people because he deeply loved God. He was known not only for his service and faith, but also for his amazing smile—a smile that warmed hearts, uplifted spirits, and made everyone around him feel seen and loved. It was a reflection of the joy and light he carried within.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory:
his devoted wife, Jasper Allen, and their six children—Vicky Allen, Stanley (Edith) Allen, Angel Faye Heard, Sophia Wallace, Kimberly (Alvin) Fleming, and Stacy (Maurice) Peterson.

He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Gertha Lee Glaze and Betty Riden, and brothers, John Henry Allen and Jackie (Betina) Allen.

James shared a special and loving bond with his in-laws: Brenda (Sam) Gaulden, Joseph Allen, and Howard (Ophelia) Allen. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Josephine Allen and Lois Allen.

In addition, he leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who were blessed by his presence, his wisdom, and his love.

James L. Allen was truly loved by so many because of his genuine love for God’s people. He poured out love, encouragement, and strength wherever he went. His life was a living sermon—one that will continue to preach for generations to come.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:21
