Deacon Samuel Burch, Jr. Obituary

Deacon Samuel Luther Burch, Jr., 75, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on October 18, 2024. He was born to the late Samuel Luther Burch, Sr., and Mamie Lillian (Bowman) Burch on November 5, 1948, in Elberton, Georgia. Samuel married Peggy Glaze on December 24, 1975, and lived in Cary, North Carolina.

Samuel's parents predeceased him in 2012 and his brother, Kenneth Jerome Burch, in 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his brother, James Thomas Burch (Jennifer) of Australia; four sisters: Gloria Eberhardt and Gwendolyn Fleming (Rondle) of Elberton; Mary Hall (Walter) of Savannah, GA, Iris McLeod (Marshall) of Augusta, GA; one niece: Kimberly Eberhardt of Elberton, GA, eight nephews: Antoine Burch (Melissa) Augusta, GA, Rodney Fleming (Loise) of Elberton, GA, Sherod Fleming of Stonecrest, GA, LeSean Fleming (Tia) of Augusta, GA, Dequan Hall and Kahron Hall of Savannah, GA, and Direz McLeod of Augusta, GA; one great niece Kanisha Eberhardt of Augusta, GA, ten great nephews: Kenterrius Robertson, Keldric Rambert, Kavarion Eberhardt and Rodney Fleming, Jr. of Elberton, GA; Caleb and Chance Fleming of Augusta, GA, twins Liam & Lance Burch of Augusta, GA; four great, great nephews: Kentravion Robertson, Karson Rambert, a special niece: Amber Jarrett Quinnie of Dacula, GA; and a host of cousins and other relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Samuel graduated from Blackwell High School in 1966 and served in the United States Army for three years. He served one tour in Vietnam. After leaving the military, Samuel graduated from Savannah State University with a BS in Criminal Justice. He also studied Sociological Research at NCCU and was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Samuel's career included working as a teacher in the Veteran Enrichment Education Program (VEEP) at Savannah State, as a police officer in Athens, GA, as a Cottage Life Supervisor at the Regional Youth Development Center (Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice) in Augusta, GA., as an Instructor at Granville Community College, and a counselor at the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center (ADTC) in Raleigh and Butner, NC.

Samuel loved traveling, sports, including tennis, basketball, football, and track, and serving as a deacon at Elevation Baptist Church. He lived a blessed life and was loved by many. In remembrance of Deacon Burch, please consider donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society° (LLS), a national health agency focusing on curing multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), leukemia, and Hodgkin's disease.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel. 

Funeral Service for Deacon Burch will be Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church in Elberton, Georgia.

Interment service will follow funeral services at Lincoln Heights Cemetery - Elberton, Georgia.
