In the stillness of the night, the Angels came to the residence of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Daniels Rucker to carry her soul to a land where she shall live eternally. Mrs. Dorothy Mae Daniels Rucker of Sardis Community Hartwell, Georgia was born on November 08, 1941, and transitioned on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Mrs. Rucker was the daughter of the late Mr. John Rucker and Mrs. Georgia Lee (Brewer) Rucker.
Our Mom, Dorothy Mae Daniels Rucker, was born on November 8, 1941, in Elberton, GA. She served on Oak Grove Baptist Church's Usher Board for over 30 years. After graduating from Hart County Training School in 1959, she worked as a quality inspector at Hartwell Garment Company and retired from Gip's with over 35 years in the textile industry. A skilled seamstress, she made wedding dresses, custom drapes, and her daughter's bridesmaids' dresses. Hartwell residents trusted her with their valuable garments. Her passions included sewing and maintaining a tidy yard, often seen riding her lawn mower to ensure it was done just right.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Arthur Rucker; sister-Fannie Lou Roebuck; brothers - Sylvester Heard, Matthew Heard, Alexander Heard, Worley Rucker, LH Rucker, John Henry Rucker, Herman Rucker, and Samuel Rucker.
Our beloved Queen leaves to cherish her memory: son, Gregory (Constance) Daniels; devoted daughter & caregiver, Felicia (Robert- who she often referred to as 'my son'). Bonus children: Carlton Fowler, Dyanne Rucker, Gary Arthur Rucker, Barbara Rucker Boney, Allen Rucker, and Michael Rucker. Five grandchildren — Jeremiah Surrency, Banard Daniels II, Caila Phillips, Robert A. Snead, Ill, and G. Tyriq Snead, and ten great-grandchildren. Her caregiver, dear friend, and adopted niece, Bridgette Kimble; her best friend and sister-in-law, Elva Daniels and lifelong friend, Norma Rose Strange; God daughters - Phyllis Glover and Sharon Johnson. Godsons - Travis Rucker and Jacob Jones. Adopted daughters, Erica Ransom, Lisa Earls, McKawonjalia Bates, Iris Brown, Peggy Craft, Tammy Hart, and Kay Sanders, her Sardis Family who affectionately called her `Dot' or 'Aunt Dot', and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mom was devoted to her community, volunteering in many roles at Oak Grove Baptist Church beyond the Usher Board. Her dedication instilled in us a strong sense of service and empathy. Involved in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, she never missed our activities and always supported us. She taught us perseverance and to never say "can't", often reminding us, "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you." Even in her last days, she helped others. Her kindness, resilience, strength, and perseverance will continue to resonate through our family, leaving an inspiring legacy for everyone who knew her.
