Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Fortson) McCalla, age 79 departed from this walk of life to gain her Heavenly reward on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at her residence in Elberton, Georgia.
Mrs. Dorothy Mae “Dot” Fortson McCalla was born May 8, 1944 in Elberton, GA to the late Ulysses Allen and the late Rosa Lee Fortson. She was preceded in death by her parents; step father George Banks, Sr.; husband J. P. McCalla, grandmother, Maria Christian and four sisters, Ella Mae Wells, Sammie Lee Hester, Margaret Allen, Rubie Noble; four brothers, Curtis Allen, Larry Allen, George Ward Banks, Jr. and Norris Banks.
She joined White’s Chapel C.M.E. Church at an early age. She was married to the late J. P. McCalla and they resided in Atlanta, GA for many years. She worked at the laundromat all of her life until retirement. Dot enjoined fishing, travelling and going to the casinos. She was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan.
Dot quietly left this world on April 23, 2024, leaving behind to cherish her memories are three sisters, Ora Bell (James Robert) Hamm, Debra Holland both of Elberton, GA, Marian Jones of Royston, GA; two brothers, Walter Banks, Rev. Dallas Martin both of Elberton, GA; one sister in law, Barbara Jean Banks, Elberton, GA; six aunts, Delree Christian, Atlanta, GA, Gertha Lee Glaze, Betty Riden, Lois Allen Elberton, GA, Josephine Allen, Bowman, GA, Wilhelmina Allen, Hartwell, GA; three uncles, James Lee (Jasper Lou) Allen, Elberton, GA, John Henry Allen, Bridgeport, Connecticut, Wilson C. (Bettina) Allen, Elberton, GA; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 2:30pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Interment Service will follow the funeral service at Whites Chapel C.M.E. Church Cemetery.
