On Sunday, August 3, 2025, Mrs. Essie M. McCurry of Lavonia heard the voice of the Angel, and she quickly stepped aboard of the ship of Zion, as her earthly family said goodbye on this side, her heavenly family welcomed her home on the other side.
Mrs. Essie Mae Brown McCurry was born on December 17, 1932, to the late Lula Virginia Harper-Brown and Sam Brown. She was called home early Saturday morning on August 3, 2025.
Essie joined the New Hope Franklin Baptist Church in her youth but regularly attended the Lavonia Church of Christ. She retired from Dad’s Restaurant after working for many years. Essie was an avid fan of quilting, a gardener growing flowers, fruits and vegetables, a lover of WWE Wrestling and loved fishing.
Essie leaves to cherish her memories five children Frederick (Teresa) McCurry, Rachel (Chester) Gardner, Thurley Mangrum, Jacqueline (Ronnie) Morrison all of Lavonia, GA, and Herman McCurry of Hagerstown, MD; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends; a special friend who she called her Little Brother Frank Johnson.
She is preceded in death by four brothers Leonard Brown, Noland Brown, JD Brown, and George Roebuck; six sisters Annie Laura King, Ruby Nell Maxwell, Clara Ruth Johnson, Clara Jean Hunter, Rebecca Johnson, and Mae Lee Latimer; and one son-in-law Dwight Mangrum.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 1:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00am, located at Lavonia Church of Christ.
Interment service will immediately follow funeral services located at Fairview/New Hope Cemetery - Canon, GA.
