In the still of the night God in his own wise providence dispatched his Angels to Pruitt Health-Spring Valley in Elberton, Georgia to bring home a true and faithful servant Mrs. Fannie Sue (Tate) Oliver, where she is now waiting at the gate for each of us.
Mrs. Fannie Sue (Tate) Oliver was born in Elberton, Georgia, to the late Mr. Wade Hamp Tate and the late Mrs. Sarah Brawner (Tate) Freeman on February 27, 1936. She peacefully made her transition to eternal life on September 12, 2025. Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her husband: Mr. Ronald Lee Oliver, Sr.; two sisters: Mrs. Loat B. Cleveland and Mrs. Louise Bell; four brothers: Infant J. O. Tate, Mr. Herman Tate, Mr. Jack Wade (J.W.) Tate, and Mr. Harold Tate; and one grandson: RonXavier Tate.
At a young age, Mrs. Oliver commenced her membership at Tate’s Grove Baptist Church, where she fulfilled numerous roles over several decades. Following her marriage to Mr. Ronald Oliver, Sr., in the mid-1950s, she relocated from the Flatwoods community of Elbert County to the town area of Elberton in pursuit of enhanced employment opportunities. In the early 1970s, she initiated her affiliation with Mount Zion Church of God Holiness, where she remained a dedicated choir member for many years. Concurrently with her church responsibilities and familial duties, Mrs. Oliver engaged in various professions, including domestic work, hairstyling, and baking. Among these, baking was her undisputed passion. Although Mrs. Oliver consistently prepared delectable meals throughout the year, she reserved the holiday season for baking a diverse array of cakes, pies, and casseroles for numerous individuals, events, and businesses within Elberton and beyond.
To God’s keeping, she leaves one daughter: Sarah Lois (Freddie) Baker, Elberton, GA; two sons: Ronald Lee Oliver, Jr., Elberton, GA; Carey Alston (Debra) Oliver, Elberton, GA: one brother: Marion (Sandra) Tate, Gainesville, GA; seven grandchildren: Tyrone Oliver, Christopher Baker, Jennifer (Terence) McDuffie, Deanna (Johann) Rashad, Amber Oliver, Tanesha Oliver, and Shara Oliver; the joys of her heart – twelve great-grandchildren: Marcus, Zoriah “Ny”, Zytravious “Zy”, Paris, Kaison, Tyler “T.J.”, Corbin, Itraverous “Deuce”, Aria, Alexander, Kobe and Destiny; special friends: Hattie Wilson and Rev. Melvene Burton; one bonus daughter: Yvonne Shifflette; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that loved her and will always cherish her memories.
