In the still of the night, the Angels carried home the soul of Mr. James Allen Seymour, age 69 at Presbyterian Village Athens.
James Allen Seymour was born in 1955 and after a 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s, at the age of sixty-nine, lost his fight. He passed away on the evening of November 23, 2024, at the Presbyterian Village Memory Care Center, where he had resided for a little less than a year.
Allen was born in Elberton, GA to wonderful parents, James Clifton and Betty Hodgson Seymour of Hartwell, Georgia. He was a “little brother” (as she called him to the day he died, to Lynne Seymour Bowers (Mrs. Jerry Bowers) and “big brother” to Lori Seymour Davis (Mrs. Donald D. Davis).
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia School of Accounting in 1976. After passing the Certified Public Accounting’s licensing test on the first try, he worked a short stint for Mr. John Barrentine, CPA just out of college, then went on to Haynes & Moore, CPAs in Rome, GA. And, eventually worked in the Greenville, New York and Chicago Offices of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, CPA’s, (now known as Deloitte Touche).
In 1989, John Barrentine, a good man and friend, passing away from cancer asked Allen if he would be interested in coming to take over his practice. It was a chance to bring the Family (His Wife of 49 1/2 years, Cathy Eubank Seymour and Sons, Jonathan Michael Seymour and Daniel Aaron Seymour (now married to Beth Forrest Seymour) back ‘home’ to Georgia. He continued the practice in the old C & S Bank Building in downtown Athens on the seventh floor. And, eventually in 1996 moved to the present offices of Seymour & Perry, LLC on Jennings Mill Road, in Watkinsville, GA.
Allen was a good Father, Grandfather to Virginia Seymour Zeringue (Mrs. Joseph Zeringue) and Great Grandfather to their twins Dominick and Gabriel. A Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Deacon, CPA, Christian, and an all-around decent honest man who will be sorely missed.
A time of remembrance will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 1:00pm, located at Presbyterian Village - Watkinsville, GA. Inurnment services will be private.
