James Tate Obituary

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Lord in his great wisdom quietly dispatched an Angel to escort Mr. James Ira (Jip) Tate, out of this life and relocated him to his new heavenly home.

James Ira (Jip) Tate peacefully departed this life on February 20, 2024. "Jip," a man of humble demeanor, found comfort and purpose in the great outdoors, guided by the wisdom of Ecclesiastes 3:1, cherishing each season and its unique offerings. He harnessed the bountiful gifts of nature to provide for his cherished family and took immense joy in being a source of blessing to others.

With a heart full of love and a zest for life, Jip reveled in the company of his family, finding contentment in the simple pleasures of preparing meals and sharing hearty laughter. His passion for gardening, grilling, and crafting delicious stews brought warmth and delight to those around him.

Over five decades ago, amidst the charm of his 1970 Yellow Beetle Volkswagen, Jip encountered and wedded the love of his life Miss Elizabeth Clark. As they embarked on life’s journey together, two children were born to this union. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Glen and Mattie Tate, his son, Zachary Tate, four sisters, Dorothy M. Blackwell, Geraldine Cleveland, Florida B. Tate, Diane Norman; three brothers, Glen Tate, Jr, William H. Tate, Lewis T. Dubose.

Jip leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth C. Tate; cherished daughter, Yolanda Tate; a dear niece reared in the home as daughter Marquita (Daccus) Turman, caring daughter-in-law, Shanta Tate; adored grandsons, Keithshun Tate, Isiah Snow, Zaven Tate, and Jason (Miya) Bowman. Granddaughters, Zacheanna Tate and Nitia Fortson. Three brothers, Lera (Donna) Tate, Stone Mountain, Ga., Joe B. (Evelyn) Tate, Orlando, Florida, Mitchell Earl Tate; brother-n-law Leonard Blackwell, Decatur, Ga.

He will be fondly remembered for his boundless generosity and the endearing nicknames he bestowed upon all who crossed his path. Though lighthearted, these names held deep significance to Jip, reflecting his unique connection with each individual he encountered.
