Jovan Ferronte Patterson

On Monday, February 2, 2026, Jovan F. Patterson, age 29, of the Sardis community in Hartwell, Georgia, was called home to be with the Lord and reunited with his beloved Papa Richard.

Jovan was born on July 20, 1996, in Anderson, South Carolina. He was raised in Lavonia, Georgia, where he graduated from Franklin County High School in 2014. During his senior year, he proudly served as captain of the basketball team and was also a member of the track team. Jovan continued his education at Emmanuel College and Atlanta Technical College.

Jovan worked as a supervisor at Walmart in Toccoa, Georgia, where he was loved and respected by both his co-workers and customers. He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile, kind heart, and the warmth he brought to everyone he met.

At an early age, Jovan attended Maple Spring Baptist Church, where he was a member of the children’s choir. He also attended Broad River Baptist Church and Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church.

Jovan was deeply loved by his parents, Paul and Stephany Simpson, and John Patterson I; his brother, John Patterson II (Breauna); his sister, Ashley Simpson; his girlfriend, Hannah Weaver; and his nephew, Adden Simpson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his grandmother, Dorothy Gaines; Aunt Lashun Rucker (Timothy); Uncle Richard Gaines, Jr. (Tina); Aunt Alice Jones (Victor); Aunt Sarah Jackson; Aunt Rendy Rivers (Bernard); Aunt Linda Johnson; Uncle Marvin Simpson (Shirley); Uncle Thomas Simpson (Mildred); Aunt Denise Allen Perry (Nathaniel); Aunt Darlene Pressley (Reginald); Aunt Vanessa Patterson; Uncle Steve Cooper; Uncle Mike Patterson; his godparents, Porsha and Damien Hughes; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Jovan was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Gaines, Sr.; grandparents Martha and Bobby Patterson; grandparents Addie and Sam Simpson; and many other cherished family members.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 3:00pm, located at Maple Spring Baptist Church - Dewy Rose, GA. 

Interment will immediately follow the funeral service located at Maple Spring Baptist Church - Dewy Rose, GA.
