Death is a gain when it means the end of one’s sorrow. Though we live in a world filled with beauty, it is also touched by sadness. On Tuesday evening, February 17, 2026, Ms. Linda Gail (Oglesby) Fortson answered the call and entered into eternal rest.
Born November 28, 1953, in Elberton, GA, Linda was known for her radiant smile that could light up any room and her infectious laughter that brought warmth to the hearts of everyone around her. She had an unparalleled ability to make even the simplest moments feel special, turning ordinary gatherings into memorable celebrations filled with joy and laughter.
As the life of every party, she had a unique talent for connecting with people, making them feel seen and valued. Her generous spirit and kindness were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Linda loved hosting family gatherings, and her delightful stories captivated both young and old.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Howard Fortson l her parents Charles Lindbergh “B” and Reba Lois Oglesby; her sister Julia Mae Oglesby; her brothers Douglas “Paul” Oglesby, Sr., Charles Oglesby, and Antonio “Tony” Oglesby.
She is survived by her loving children Deshondra Fortson of Vista California, Charles (Keokila) Fortson of Anderson, South Carolina, and Aubrey (Tina) Fortson of Eatonton, Georgia; grandchildren Jacquez Fortson of Anderson, South Carolina, Acura (Gage) Sallier of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Kyan Fortson of Elberton, Georgia; great grandson Brayden Sallier of Wesley Chapel, Florida; brothers Kenneth (Philander) Oglesby of Knoxville, Tennessee, Randy Oglesby of Elberton, Georgia; sister Cleavie Smith of Elberton, Georgia, Janet Hoffman of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Bonnie Carpenter Oglesby of Elberton, Georgia; and her beloved pet budgerigar parrot Matt Fortson; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us, reminding us to celebrate life with the same joy and enthusiasm she embodied.
Public Viewing for Ms. Fortson will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 1:00PM - 5:00PM at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service for Ms. Fortson will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00PM at Maple Spring Baptist Church, Dewy Rose, GA.
Interment will take place in the Maple Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
