Ms. Lizzie Mae Fortson was born on March 23, 1935, to Edd Fortson Sr. and Lucy (Bowman) Fortson.
Lizzie joined the Carlton Grove Baptist Church at an early age and has remained a faithful member until her declining health. Lizzie was educated in the Elbert County School System and was a graduate of the Blackwell High School Class of 1955. Lizzie worked as a supervisor for the Cedar Program until it closed and then she became a domestic worker.
Lizzie was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Joe Fortson Sr., Henry Fortson and Edd Fortson Jr., nephews, Dale Fortson and Robert Fortson, son-in-law, Thomas Maxwell Sr., and her caregiver of many years whom she dearly loved Amanda Hawes who she met on Monday, March 17, 2025, when the Angels carried her home.
Those left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Deborah Maxwell and Sharon Huff; four grandchildren, Sanquetta Calhoun (reared in the home), Thomas Maxwell Jr., Laquanze Fortson and Kameron Wooden; four great-grandchildren, Rontavion Mattox (her pride and joy), Kassydi Mattox, Asher Maxwell, and Faithlynn Maxwell; one sister-in-law, Alberta Fortson; three nephews and two nieces, Joe (Angela) Fortson, Claude (Sheila) Fortson, Johnny Fortson, Thelma Fortson and Ternee Huff; two godchildren, Kimberly Fortson and Steven Settles; her best friend of over 70 years Laura Lee Fortson; two special friends Dorothy Isom and Mattie Allen; two children in the community who adored her, Kaison Rucker and Payton Bowman; cousin who helped take care of her until the very end Frances Mattox; her barber for many years Rodney Carter; along with a host of other family and friends.
Public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 3:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Interment service will follow funeral services located at Lincoln Heights Cemetery - Elberton, GA
