Lois Thornton Obituary

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Mrs. Lois Ree (Glaze) Thornton, age 66, of Hinesville, Georgia received her wings on September 19, 2024, at the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

Lois Ree Thornton, born on August 29, 1958, to Mamie Lou (Glaze) Dye and Sylvester Ardister, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA, at 2:03 pm. She was 66 years old. Lois was a beloved sister to Mamie Walker (husband Jerry Walker), Gracie Glaze, Glory Leverett, Donald Clark, Linda Malcolm (husband Reggie Malcolm), Annette Carter (husband Rodney Carter) and Sandy Dye.

Lois was proceeded in death by her brothers: Thomas Dye, Anthony Dye Sr., and Larry Jackson. Lois attended Banks Elementary School and graduated from Elbert County High School in the class of 1977.

On May 1, 1975, she married the love of her life, Larry D. Thornton. Together, they shared a beautiful journey of nearly 50 years, blessed with four children: Shequllia Young (husband Jonathan Young), Natosha (who is now in heaven), Andrea Thornton, and Shantel Thornton.

As a dedicated military wife for over 20 years, Lois traveled extensively, living in Germany multiple times, Texas, Arizona, Mississippi, and Georgia. In 1980 Lois gave her life to the Lord and in each place that the family called home she found a church home and served God faithfully in the ministry of ushering and hospitality. Lois made friends wherever she resided and was known for her smile and giving spirit, for her love of cooking, reading her Bible, and her unwavering devotion to her family and grandchildren and her love for God.

Lois leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her nine grandchildren: Malcolm Thornton (wife Hacer Thornton), Alexia Hannon, Dillon Hannon, Dominique Hannon, Ariyonna Thornton, Asia Thornton, Taurien Edwards, Azariah Thornton, and Ahnyx Thornton; and one great-grandchild, Sameerah Eroglu. She is also survived by six aunts, four uncle, nine nieces, six nephews, and a host of other family members she cherished deeply.

Lois’s life was a testament to her faith, love, and dedication to her family and community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
