Lucille Allen Jones-Mixon

Mrs. Lucille Allen Jones-Mixon, age 74 of Rosedale, New York formerly of Elberton, Georgia entered her eternal rest on Friday, August 18, 2023.

Lucille A. Jones-Mixon was born in Elberton, Georgia on March 12, 1949, to the late Jim Louis Allen and Gladys (Fleming) Allen. Our sweet, caring, vibrant angel was rewarded her heavenly wings, took flight and passed from this life, into her abiding glory.
 

At a very early age, Lucille’s love for the Lord was omnipresent leading her to accept Christ as her personal Savior. She was a devoted member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church in Elberton, GA for many years. In 1967, Lucille graduated from Blackwell High School. After graduation, she left Elberton and moved to Atlanta, GA where she married the late Robert Lewis Jones. She later returned to Elberton to have her daughter, Tracey.
 

Lucille decided to relocate to New York City to make a better life for herself and her daughter. Lucille settled in Queens where she spent the next 48 years. She initially became a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Queens and later moved her membership to the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica under Reverend Floyd H. Flake and Reverend Elaine Flake. While in New York, Lucille met Huley Mixon, Sr., whom she spent many happy years with and later married. They had one son, Huley A. Mixon, Jr.

Lucille worked diligently while expanding her skillset and education. She successfully obtained serval certificates in nursing programs. Lucille’s career in healthcare began at Elmhurst Hospital where she spent serval years. She later joined Long Island Jewish Hospital and retired after 29 years of service. She was a loyal, dedicated and faithful employee to all of her patients. Lucille was also an avid reader and would read books for hours. She said that reading broadened her imagination and allowed her to travel the world in her mind through reading books. When she wasn’t reading books, she was watching her favorite show, “Grey’s Anatomy".

Lucille, a woman of grace and dignity, cared deeply for her family. She did this not out of obligation but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help and gave boundless support to anyone who was in need. She had a nurturing spirit and always ensured that every child and grandchild who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy and happy.
 

Lucille did not “lose” her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she always remained determined. Everyone else would have broken, but Lucille stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like.

On August 18, 2023, Lucille departed this life to be with her Heavenly Father. She is preceded in death by one sister, Rose Lee Tate and one brother Freddie Dennis Allen. She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted and loving husband, Huley Mixon; daughter, Tracey L. Jones; son, Huley A. Mixon, Jr.; stepson Demetrius Bouiver Mixon; stepdaughter, Cherise Parker; one sister, Genora Allen of Elberton, GA; one brother, Donald Brown of Elberton, GA; brothers-in-law, Lindsey Mixon and Willie Rudolph; sisters-in-law, Ida Mixon, Florine Rudolph and Jensie Headley of Evergreen and Mobile, AL; three aunts, Irene Leverette (Aunt Panky) of Elberton, GA, Christine Williams of Elberton, GA and Mildred Drake of Atlanta, GA; two uncles, Emanuel Williams of Elberton, GA and Joe Lewis Allen of Bowman, GA; grandchildren, Myasia Smalls, Adriana Myrakel Mixon, Arianna Lorraine Dukes, Jayla Mixon and Adria Emily Tucker, all from NY; one great-grandchild, Mayson Smalls of NY; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
We will always miss and love her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, and Saturday, August 26, 2023, beginning at 10:00am until 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 2:00pm located at Rose Hill Baptist Church - Elberton, Georgia. 

Interment Service will follow funeral service at Carlton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
