Without a whimper, sigh or moan, but quietly and serenely, Mrs. Mary (Tucker) Lewis stepped briskly and calmly aboard the ship of Zion on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, while at her residence. Her name was checked by the celestial steward on deck, and she claimed her place among her Heavenly Father’s eternal dwellers.
Today, we celebrate a life well lived. Mary T. Lewis was born February 16,1926 to Brewer and Lucilla Davis Tucker in Abbeville, SC. She was the second youngest of six children. Her brothers, Carl Davis, Robert Tucker, Henry Tucker, Walter Tucker and sister, Lois Tucker Jackson proceeded her in death.
Mary married the late William Earl Lewis. She lived a happy, fruitful life and touched many lives along her journey. Mary was a domestic worker for many years. She joined St. John C.M.E. Church in Hartwell, GA at a young age and then moved her membership to Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Elberton, GA where she served on the Missionary Board faithfully. She later on attended services at Zion C.M.E. Church. She was a member of the Hart County Senior Citizen Group.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Martha McGlockling and Linda Tucker of Hartwell, GA; a special son-in-law, James McGlockling; six grandchildren (one grandson proceeded her in death); 17 great grandchildren (one great grandson proceeded her in death); four great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
