Matthew Smith

Mr. Matthew Smith, age 79 of Lavonia, Georgia entered his eternal rest on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

The Celebration of life for Matthew “Matt” Smith. Matthew Smith was born on November 15, 1943, in Lavonia, Georgia to the late Loren Rivers and Ruby Nell Smith. He fought a very good race until he was called to his eternal home on May 14, 2023.

He joined New Light Baptist Church at an early age. Matthew attended the Franklin County School System. He started working for Southeast Schokbeton Inc., where he helped to build many bridges, which he was very proud of in Atlanta, Georgia. When Shokbeton closed he went on to work at Tugaloo Construction Company where he retired after many years of service.

Matthew and his twin brother Mark were like two peas in a pod. You never saw one without the other, from birth, school, work and even in retirement.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister: Annie Ruth Smith. Two Brothers: Joe Henry and his twin brother Mark Smith. Three Nephews.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: Five Children: Twins, Mark Smith (Shadonne), Deon Smith, Gussie Lewis (Andre), Miranda Higginbotham (Nathanial) and Yolanda Feaster. One Sister: Mary Oliver (Stanley). Three Brothers: Sylvester Brown (Juanita), Ronnie and Paul Graham. Eleven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews along with friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home Hartwell Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2:00pm, located at New Light Baptist Church - Lavonia, GA. 

Interment will follow the funeral service at New Light Baptist Church Cemetery - Lavonia, GA.
