On Sunday, November 2, 2025, just as the date was coming into existence, in the stillness of darkness, the Lord in his great wisdom dispatched his angels to peacefully relocate Mrs. Mattie Lou (Simpson) Burns of Carnesville, Georgia to her new heavenly home.
Mattie Lou Burns, was born on December 8th, 1941, to the late Mr. and Mrs. L.T. Simpson in Carnesville, Ga where she resided all her life. She was a faithful member of the Ellis Chapel C.M.E Church where she served on the Missionary, Steward, and Trustee boards until the decline of her health. She was a member of the Starlight Gospel Singers and the North Georgia Note Singers. Music was a passion for her the majority of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Garnet (Mack) Burns of 64 years, two sons, Stephan Burns and Jonathan Burns, six siblings, Louis Tony Simpson, Sarah Teasley, Charles Simpson, Frank Simpson, Ollie Simpson, Luther Simpson, Grandson Jonathan Burns, and Granddaughter Riley Burns, and great grandson Dameon Johnson.
She leaves to mourn her two daughters, Michele Burns ( of the home) and Stephanie Feaster (Sammy Feaster) of Toccoa, Ga and daughter-in-law Lisa Burns of Commerce, Ga. Four grandchildren Lashonda Johnson of Nicholson, GA, Jalen Burns Lavonia, Ga, Madison Burns of the home, and Ryan Burns Commerce, Ga. Four special cousins, Katie Lou Flood, Joyce Flood, Mildred Rucker, and Ollie Ray Bell. Nine great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her family, church family, and her community, and friends. She was a
pillar and example for us all. Her legacy will live on and our memories will always remain.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1:00pm, located at Ellis Chapel C.M.E. Church - Carnesville, GA.
Interment Service will immediately follow the funeral service located at Ellis Chapel Church Cemetery.
