In Loving Memory of Mattie Moon
June 18, 1933 – July 3, 2025
With deep love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Mattie Moon, who entered eternal rest on July 3, 2025, at the age of 92.
Mattie was born on June 18, 1933, to the late T.J. Moon and Perneta Oglesby Moon. A woman of quiet strength and deep faith, Mattie lived a life of service, devotion, and unconditional love. She worked many years in the sewing industry, where her hands brought care and quality to everything she touched.
She was a faithful Christian, whose trust in God guided her every step. Her life was a living testimony of grace, kindness, and compassion. After joining her family church Rock Springs CME at a very early age she later joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Mattie wore many hats in her lifetime—nurturer, confidant, beautician, caregiver, dentist, and so much more. Whether tending to a scraped knee, doing hair on the front porch, offering wise counsel, or fixing a loose tooth with loving determination, Mattie was always there—steadfast and dependable. She gave of herself freely and fully, expecting nothing in return but sharing everything she had.
She was the devoted mother of four children: Angela Jones, Anthony Moon, Evelyn Burden (Bobby), and Tonya Moon. Her legacy lives on through her seven beloved grandchildren: Syvella Jones, Keysha Patterson (Corey), Eric Jones, Brandon Jones, Ania Jones (Eddie), Destani Clinton (Shaquille), and Deldrin Moon, and through thirteen cherished great-grandchildren.
Affectionately known as Mama, Granny, Aunt Mattie, and Cousin Mattie, she touched countless lives with her warm smile, comforting words, and open arms. Her table was always full, her kitchen always busy, and her door always open.
Mattie loved her family deeply and lived a virtuous life defined by her strength, resilience, and unwavering love. She was the heart of her family—and her spirit will live on through each life she touched.
