Michael Bernard “Fig” Newton, 57 of Hartwell died Friday, January 30, 2026. Michael dedicated his life to the University of Georgia football and Hart County High School basketball team along with his family and community. He will be remembered for his bright smile, kindness, integrity and sense of humor. Michael touched many hearts and will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his many memories are his wife: Patricia Harper Newton; mother: Mary Ann Newton; mother-In-Law: Minister Elizabeth Harper; daughter: Zahari Blackwell; sons: Mario (Shameka) Harper, Maricus Hailey, Kendrick Harper; 14 Grandchildren; bonus sister: Frederica “Rica” Curry; bonus brother: Melvin Robertson; sisters-in-law: Suderia Rowe, Karen (George) Shambry, Susan (Leonard) Heard, Connie (Tony) Lipscomb; brothers-in-law: Robert Lee Harper, Jeith Harper and Richard (Judy) Sheller; special uncle and aunts Rogers Curry, Alma Sadler and Minnie (Newton) Marshall and a host of other family and relatives.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 1:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00pm, located at Church of God of Prophecy - Hartwell, GA
Interment following the funeral service located at St. James C.M.E. Church - Hartwell, GA
