Minister Geneva Butler Obituary

Minister Geneva Butler, 98, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend, peacefully transitioned to her eternal home on March 31, 2026. As the angels beckoned her, she gained her wings and her soul was carried from Brown Health & Rehabilitation in Royston, Georgia, to her heavenly home.

Minister Geneva Wheeler Butler transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday March 31, 2026 with family by her side. She was born June 14, 1927, to Susie Wheeler in Franklin County.

Minister Butler was a beloved member of the Ellis Chapel C.M.E. Church, where she devoted her life to serving the Lord. She answered the call to ministry at an early age and served faithfully for over five decades. Her dedication and unwavering faith were an inspiration to all who knew her. She led and nurtured the congregation, spreading the word of God with a compassionate heart and a guiding spirit.

She was known by many for her wisdom, her kind nature, and her strong devotion to her family and her church. She faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and actively devoted her Wednesday nights to Bible study until the age of 98! Her life was a testament to God’s love and grace, and she instilled those values in everyone she met.

Her legacy is one of love and faith. She enjoyed caring for her family and cooking wonderful food; most notably her sweet potato custards, peach cobbler and sweet tea. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and hospitality where everyone was welcome.

Minister Butler leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Gary Butler and her son-in-law, Herbert Whitfield. she leaves to cherish her loving memory her sons Watters (JoAnn) Butler and Larry Butler, her two daughters Linda Whitfield and Elaine Butler. She also leaves behind her special girl Kay (Earnest) Butler Thomas, Jessica Butler, Paris (Sandra) Whitfield, Lesa McClure, Nelson (Brandy) Butler, a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is now resting in the arms of the Lord, whom she faithfully served. Minister Geneva Butler will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her kindness, her generous spirit, and her dedication to Ellis Chapel. Her wisdom and love have left a lasting imprint on the hearts of her family, friends, and community. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

In our sorrow, we reflect on the joy she brought into our lives and the lessons of love and faith she taught us. We celebrate her remarkable life and give thanks to God for the many years we were blessed to share with her.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 1:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 1:00pm, located at Ellis Chapel C.M.E. Church - Carnesville, GA. 

Internment services will immediately follow the funeral service located at Ellis Chapel C.M.E. Church - Carnesville, GA.
