Mother Lenora (Bradford) Dubose, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, embarked on her new journey on December 6, 2024. As the angels signed her name, she gained her wings and ascended from Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital in Athens, Georgia, to her heavenly home.
Lenora Bradford Dubose, known for her kind-hearted spirit, radiant smile, her bold fashion statements, and a heart as big as her collection of hats and pot of collard greens, was born on November 28, 1944, to Nick Bradford, Sr. and Dora Huling Bradford. On December 6, 2024, our Queen traded her earthly crown for her heavenly crown.
Lenora acknowledged the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ throughout her life. Early in her spiritual walk, she worshiped with her family at Rose Hill Baptist Church before joining Cades Chapel Baptist Church to be with her husband, the late Arthur Dubose, Jr.
Lenora had a passion for fashion. She was often seen around town in an eye-catching hat, two-piece suit, and red nails, always exuding elegance. She would find hidden boutiques in search of one-of-a-kind hats. Her smile could always bring joy and lift the spirits of those around her. Her home was always open to anyone looking for a hot meal, especially her famous collard greens, fried corn, okra, and crackling cornbread. Her love for family and friends was boundless. She didn’t just say “I love you”— she showed it through her actions. Lenora would rise early in the week to prepare her Sunday meals, often calling her nieces and nephews to come and feast at her table.
When it came to her children and grandchildren, there was no mountain too high or valley too low that would keep Lenora from supporting them and showing up at their event. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “granny.”
Lenora developed a passion for making chow chow, peach preserves, and pear preserves. She could often be heard in the streets saying, “I made some chow chow, the best in town—you want to buy some?” Her skillful canning became a treat enjoyed in various counties.
She was preceded in death by two children, Joe Moon, Jr. and Marilyn L. Dubose; four sisters, Darlene B. Clark, Annie S. Burton, Emma D. Heard, and Zola M. Howard; and four brothers, Willie E. Bradford, Sammie L. Bradford, Nick Bradford, Jr., and Melvin Cleveland.
She leaves a legacy cherished by three loving daughters: Pamela Allen (James), Delores Bolton (Willie), and Sheila Dubose Woodard; six grandchildren: Travis Allen, Kirsten Porter (Justin), Candice Starks (Demarcus), Brooklyn Dowdy, Deldrin J. Ardister, and Kennedi Heard; twelve great-grandchildren: Aarion Allen (Kyla), Akira Allen, Travis Allen, Jr., Madison Allen, Jurnee Porter, Ne’tiri Starks, Nyla Starks, Nehemiah Starks, Destin Ardister, Deldrin K. Ardister, Kehlani Ardister, and Dynasty Ardister; three sisters, Hattie Bradford, Addie Heard (Adam), and Beatrice Alexander; three sisters-in-law, Annette Bradford, Phyllis Cleveland, and Laura Dubose; and a special niece Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Tate and nephew, Donald ‘Bodie’ Clark who she helped her parents raise in the same home; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and dear family and friends.
Her journey on Earth may be complete, but her legacy will live on in every hat worn with pride, every meal shared with love, and every heart she touched.
