Vertis McIntosh Martin joined hands with God and entered into external rest, June 6, 2025.
Vertis was born in Birmingham, Alabama, November 17, 1940, to the union of the late Jelclanzy McIntosh, Sr. and Ruth Russaw McIntosh. Vertis confessed hope in Christ early in her life and a devoted member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church later year Martin Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She united in Holy Matrimony to the late Joseph Martin, August 9, 1970, to this 50-year union four children were born Jelyne, Genae, Jonita, Joseph and one grandchild Anyiah.
Vertis graduated from Westfield High School, received her Bachelor of Art Degree in Elementary Education from Miles College, earned a Master of Arts Degree in Special Education from Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta University), received certification as a Certificated Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Vertis was Servant Leader for Martin Grove Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, youth advisor, Vacation Bible School and Church Secretary. She servant leader for Freewill Association as Youth Advisor, Congress of Christian Education as Youth & Young Advisor and Women Department Secretary and Advisor.
Vertis was employed for 38 years with Elbert County School System and 20 years Nurses Health Care. She received 1968Teacher of the Year for Elbert County School System, runner up for District for State of Georgia.
Vertis memory will be lovingly by three daughters Dr. Jelyne M. (Rev. Dr. Brendan) Jenkins of Powder Springs, Ga; Ruthea G. Martin, of Athens, Ga; Jonita A. Martin Covington, Ga; son Joseph M. Martin of Elberton, Ga.; 1 Grandchild Anyiah J. Martin, five sisters Jelyne J. Phillips, Delores J. Williams, WRuth McIntosh, Jeanette M. Jones, Constance M. King, one brother Winford McIntosh, Sr., one sister-in-law Caroline W. McIntosh and a host of niece's nephew's cousins, other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 1:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11:00am, located at Martin Grove Baptist Church - Elberton, GA.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Martin Grove Baptist Church.
