And I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth for the first Heaven and Earth were passed away. On Monday, January 6, 2025, the Lord in his great wisdom dispatched an angel quietly to escort the soul of Rev. Elnora (Givens) Alexander, from this life to eternal rest. Rev. Alexander was the widow of Deacon John K. Alexander (owner/proprietor of Alexander Funeral Home).
Elnora Alexander, born on July 4, 1925, in Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025. A woman of faith and dedication, Elnora leaves behind a legacy of service and love.
Educated at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and Sterling High School, Elnora graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with a degree in Religion and Library Science. Her career path led her to teaching positions in Washington, Georgia, and Elbert County School System in Georgia, where she met and married John K. Alexander, a respected mortician.
Elnora’s impact extended beyond the classroom. She was a pillar of the Elberton community, actively involved in education and the funeral home business. Her deep faith, nurtured by her parents at Little Hope AME Zion Church in Charlotte, guided her throughout her life.
In the 1990’s, Elnora answered her calling to ministry. She pursued her theological studies at Morehouse College Seminary, graduating at the remarkable age of 75. Her ministry touched many lives through her service with Church Women United and her dedicated work within the CME district and conference.
Elnora was preceded in death by her husband, John K. Alexander, and sibling Arthur, John, Virginia and Sadie. She is survived by her siblings Mary Connor and Eli Givens, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Elnora Alexander’s life was a testament to faith, service, and life well lived.
