When this earthly tabernacle shall dissolve, we will go to a building not made by man's hands, on January 8, 2025, the Angel of death summoned the soul of Rev. Leroy Hood from Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital in Athens, Georgia; to a land where every day will be like Sunday.
Reverend Leroy Hood was born in Elbert County, Georgia, on May 10, 1949, to the late Mr. Willie Hood Sr. and the late Robbie Hood. At the age of six, he accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He later obtained a ministry license and became a member at Antioch Baptist Church.
He served as a military police officer in the Army. After earning his associate degree in Food Science from Athens Technical College, he worked for the Recreational Parks. He then took a position as a security guard at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Following that, he worked in maintenance at Truett McConnell College, Elberton Campus. He worked for the Elbert County School System for many years, serving in a variety of capacities, including bus driver, substitute teacher, maintenance worker, and janitor. He retired from the Elbert County School System in 2013.
Leroy's warm and inviting personality attracted many friends throughout his life. Anyone who met Leroy knew they had gained a friend for life. People often joked that he knew everyone and could talk to anyone. All will deeply miss Leroy's inspirational messages, wise advice, and sense of humor.
He leaves to cherish in his memories: his wife, Mychael Hood; two daughters, Adrian Hood, and Susan (Roy) Hill; three step-daughters, Briana Mattison, Gabrielle Bryant, and Camillya Bryant; two brothers, Early Frank (Teresa) Hood, Ronnie (Mildred) Hood; three sisters, Robbie L. Powers, JoAnn Hood, and Emma Thornton; seven grandchildren, Stetravis Echols, Brianna Hood, Manesha Rucker, Lenesha Rucker, Dyami Bryant, Jayden Austin, and Mikayla Bryant; two brothers-in-law, Frank (Naomi) Mattison, Charles (Patricia) Mattison; and one sister-in-law, Beverlyn Hardy, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Preceding him in death one daughter: Maple Hood; three brothers: Willie Hood, Robert Hood, and Jimmy Hood; and a sister Deborah Heard.
Leroy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be deeply missed.
