Richard Allen Gaines, Sr.

On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the Lord in his great wisdom dispatched an angel quietly to peacefully escort Mr. Richard Allen Gaines, Sr., 77 of the Sardis Community Hartwell, GA, out of this earthly life to relocate to his new heavenly home.

Mr. Richard Allen Gaines, Sr age 77 of Hartwell GA went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2025. He was born on May 4, 1947 to the late M. C. and Lorene Gaines.

Richard was a member of New Hope Baptist Church at an early age and later moved his membership to Maple Spring Baptist Church where he served on the usher board until his health started to decline.

Richard was a 1967 graduate of Hart County Training School. He retired from Tenneco after 32 years of service.

Richard married the love of his life Dorothy Allen Gaines on July 27, 1968 (56 years) and to this union three children Lashun (Timothy) Rucker of Hartwell GA, Stephany (Paul) Simpson of Lavonia GA and Richard (Tina) Gaines Jr of Duluth GA. 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Richard leaves to cherish fond memories one brother John (Brut) Gaines, sister Lydia Mize of Hartwell, two nieces raised in the home Joanne (George) Leverette of Hartwell and Mary Jones of Lithonia GA, sister in loves Virginia Henderson of Washington DC, Barbara (Paul) Van Hagen of Whisett NC, Jeanette Epps of Shelby NC, Sherdene Huff of Lithonia, Betty Hunt and Yvonne Craft of Hartwell GA, brother in loves Calvin (Virginia) Allen, Albert (Julia) Burch, Marvin (Deborah) Burch of Hartwell GA, Aurthamis (Frances) Burch of Ellenwood GA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Siblings preceded him in death: Minnie Gaines, Doris Gaines, Thomas Gaines, Willie Gaines, Theodore Gaines, Eqrulla Gaines, Harrison Gaines.

Public Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 1:00pm, located at Maple Spring Baptist Church. 

Interment will follow the funeral service located at Maple Spring Baptist Church.
