Sallie Stowers Obituary

Mrs. Sallie Mae Stowers, age 96 peacefully departed from this walk of life to gain her Heavenly reward on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Hartwell, GA.  We ask that you keep the Stowers family in your thoughts and prayers.

In the passage of Ecclesiastes 3:1, it is beautifully articulated that there is a time for every purpose under heaven, including the time to be born and the time to die. Sallie Mae, affectionately known as "Ma Sal," lived a life that encompassed all these seasons and more.

A Time to be Born:

Born on June 26, 1927, in Hartwell, Georgia, to the late Lonnie Teasley and Laura Francis Rucker and raised by her stepdad Arthur Rucker. Sallie was a twin and entered the world with her sister Mae Frances Teasley (Craft). God gave Laura and Lonnie double blessings on that day. The duo was called Sallie and Fran. Together they brought double love and joy.

A Time To Plant and Harvest:

Sallie attended school in Hart County, GA. Sallie's life was marked by a deep connection to her faith and community. She dedicated her working years to the American Laundry and Dry Cleaning before retiring, after which she immersed herself in various organizations like the NAACP, AARP, and Citizens in Action. However, her true passion lay in serving the Lord and her church family. Sallie's faith was not just a belief but a way of life, evident in her active participation in church activities, from singing in the choir to leading the children's choir and engaging in the women’s missionary.  Ma Sal also loved to babysit her great grandchildren. Sallie loved the Lord with all her heart, her soul, and her mind. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She loved serving, she loved people, she loved her family and church family. She joined Sardis Baptist Church as a child, and she served faithfully for many years. She song in the choir, she helped direct the children’s choir, she was a part of the women’s missionary ministry. She later joined Trinity Outreach Baptist church in 2011 where she was a founding member. She served faithfully until her death. Sallie was a worshipper, a singer, a prayer warrior, she was a praiser, and most of all she was sanctified, and Holy Ghost filled. Sallie planted many seeds of wisdom, encouragement, love, and Christ to her family and friends. Sallie also planted many of those same seeds to her community and whomever she came in contact with. Through her many years of service God allowed her to harvest the fruit of His spirit and most of all God's love and peace.

A Time to Love:

Love was at the core of Sallie's existence. She met her husband, Nathaniel Stowers, at a dance, and their love story blossomed into a family of 11 children, each a testament to the love and joy that filled their home. Sallie's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to include her stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives and friends whom she cherished deeply. Sallie lived a fulfilled life of love, joy, happiness, and gratitude.

A Time to Remember:

Sallie leaves to cherish her precious memories and her loving heart to her children. Nathaniel Stowers Jr., Betty Ann Rucker (Roy), Bishop-Elect Gail Blackwell, Terry Stowers, Emily Stowers, Patricia Stowers (Terah), Keith Stowers (Melinda), and her baby girl Rosalyn Stowers. Step-Children whom she loved as her own: Joseph Jackson(Lorene), Larry Gaines, and Diane Keith. Siblings: her best friend Hattie Sue Hill. 19 grandchildren who were more like children and 41 great grand who were more like grandchildren. Sallie kept her family close. She has a host of nieces, nephews, relatives-cousins, and friends.

A Time to Mourn:

As the inevitable time to mourn arrived on April 7, 2024, Sallie's legacy of faith, love, and service lived on in the hearts of those she touched. Surrounded by her beloved children, she peacefully transitioned to her eternal home, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and lessons in love and resilience. Though she was preceded in death by her husband, parents, children, siblings, and grandchildren, Sallie's departure was a moment of peaceful surrender, guided by her unwavering faith in God. Husband: Nathaniel Stowers, Sr. Her parents: Mr. Lonnie Teasley, Mrs. Laura Frances Rucker, and her stepdad Mr. Author Rucker Sr. Three children: Larry, Michael, and Rodney Stowers. Two grandchildren: Tanesha and Shapoylie McCurry.  Siblings: Twin sister Mae Frances Craft and Betsy Newton. Brothers: William Teasley, Author Rucker Jr., Walter Rucker, George Rucker, and Tommie Rucker.

2 Timothy 4:7-8a:

In the words of 2 Timothy 4:7-8a, Sallie Mae fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith and got her crown. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love, service, and devotion to God, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to Ma Sal, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that has found its eternal rest in the arms of her loving Father.
