Ms. Sherrye Elaine Calhoun, age 68, of Atlanta, Georgia formally of Elberton, Georgia entered her eternal rest on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Sherrye Elaine Calhoun was born February 13, 1955, to William and Bettye Calhoun in Elberton, Ga. Sherrye graduated from Elbert County High School in 1973. She then attended Savannah State College and graduated in 1977 with a B.A. Degree in Sociology. At Savannah State College, she became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She valued her sisterhood and stayed in touch even after graduation. She lived their banner of public service and motto, "Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom." Upon graduation, Sherrye began her career with the FederalBureau of Investigation (FBI)., (Washington, D.C.). After a tenure with the FBI Sherrye relocated to Atlanta, GA where she began her career with Emory University Hospital (Atlanta, GA) where she retired.
Sherrye was a member of West Side Presbyterian Church, Elberton, located on Pulliam Street. You only needed to be around her for a brief time before knowing that she was a child of God. She loved the Lord and spent each day praying, thanking, and acknowledging Him. She often communicated how much she felt “thankful,” “grateful,” and “blessed.” Her praise for the Lord was never ending.
Sherrye never met a stranger. She was kind, loving, peaceful, gentle, warm, friendly, and soft- spoken. She loved her family and enjoyed being in their presence. Other times she was sure to make phone calls to check on loved ones or simply to say hello. She used social media or whatever means necessary just to stay in touch. Whether in person or not, you could feel her smile and her love. She was truly a joy to be around and is missed already. Sherrye enjoyed cooking, baking, dining with family and friends, and traveling.
Sherrye was preceded in death by her parents; brother Marshall Louis Calhoun. She leaves to cherish her memories, James Jackson of College Park Ga, their children Shermaine Rasheed-Calhoun; Chase Skylar Calhoun-Jackson; grandchildren Bella and Remington Calhoun-Jackson of Hartwell, GA; daughter in law Qadriyyah Rasheed-Calhoun of Atlanta, GA; special sister-cousin Joyce Turner of Atlanta, GA; sister Senta Ann Slaton (William) of Ellenwood, GA; brother William Calhoun (Lillian) of Stonecrest, GA; aunts Mary Calhoun Ford of Houston, TX, and Sarah Calhoun of Elberton, GA; uncles Herman Calhoun of Spring Hill, FL, Walter Calhoun of Elberton, GA, Joseph Tate (Mary) of Royston, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 1:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
