On November 1, 2024, just as the date was coming into existence, in the stillness of darkness, the Lord in his great wisdom dispatched his angels to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital Athens, Georgia to peacefully relocate the soul of Mr. Walter L. Calhoun to his new home.
Walter Lee Calhoun was born on July 11, 1943, to the late James P. Calhoun and Geneva Calhoun, in Elberton, Ga. On the early morning of November 1, 2024, Walter L. Calhoun made his transition from here on earth, to be with his son, mother, father, brothers, and other family members.
Walter was a high school graduate of Blackwell Memorial High school. He attended Stillman College, where he became a member of the most prestigious frat of all fraternal organizations, PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY, INC. He was also a Free Mason.
He worked for many years as a truck driver. He put his three sons through college. When his last son completed high school, Walter stopped driving a truck and started working as a granite top polisher, so his wife would not at home alone. Walter also loved gardening, teaching Sunday School, and being a wealth of knowledge for anyone that requested it.
Preceding him in death was his son Barry Keith Calhoun father James P. Calhoun, mother Geneva Calhoun, brothers James P. Calhoun, Jr, Drayton Calhoun, and John C. Calhoun.
Walter leaves to cherish his legacy and memories: his wife Sarah F. Calhoun, his sons Richard M. Calhoun (Angela), Stone Mountain, GA, and Timothy L. Calhoun (Kristy), Douglasville, GA; a brother Herman Calhoun (Sandi), Spring Hill, Florida, and a sister Mary Ford, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Reginald Calhoun, Aaron Calhoun, Timothy L. Calhoun, Jr., Jordan Thomas, and Bryce Calhoun; three great grandchildren: Laila, Amaya, and Jason Xavier Calhoun, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 12:00 - 5:00pm, located at Mack's Funeral Home - Elberton Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 1:00pm, located at Norman Grove C.M.E. Church
Interment Service will follow the funeral service at Norman Grove C.M.E. Church Cemetery.
