William Albert “Butchie” White, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, transitioned from this life to eternal glory on January 12, 2026, at the age of 76 years old at Pruitt Health-Spring Valley Nursing Home. He was known for a warm spirit, a love of music, and a deep devotion to faith and family.
Butchie joined the Springfield Baptist Church family at an early age and remained a faithful servant throughout life until he made the nursing home his residence. He served diligently as an usher and church custodian, always willing to work behind the scenes to support the house of God. His commitment, humility, and dedication were evident to all who knew him.
Butchie worked in the granite industry for many years, where he was known for his dedication and a strong work ethic. He was also a member of the Blackwell Memorial High School Class of 1967.
Butchie found great joy in the outdoors and especially enjoyed raccoon hunting and fishing—pastimes that brought peace, camaraderie, and many cherished memories. Music was another lifelong passion. He played bass guitar and was a proud member of a band called The Shining Stars. After accepting Christ, the group transformed into a gospel band, using music as a ministry to spread faith and encouragement to others.
Butchie will be remembered for his love of God, music, family and community, as well as his kind heart and steady presence. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Sam White, Jr. and Minnie Mae Barksdale White, brother, Sanford White, sister, Angela White, and his niece Sharon Denise Dodson.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Ms. Doris Thompson, Bonaire, GA and Ms. Sharon Land-Dodson, Jacksonville, FL., two brothers, Mr. Ezell Land, Elberton, GA and Mr. Daniel White
(Phyllis), Elberton, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
